How to set up birthday reminders you can actually use
A birthday reminder is most useful when there is still time to do something about it. Start with the person and what you want to prepare, then work backwards from their birthday.
Start with the birthday, then work backwards
If you want to send a physical gift, allow time to choose it, check availability, arrange delivery and write a note. A local visit or a phone call may need less preparation. There is no single reminder interval that fits every person; choose one that gives you enough time for the gesture you have in mind.
Keep the date separate from the reminder
The birthday is the occasion. The reminder is your prompt to prepare. Save the birthday itself as the event date rather than changing it to the day you want an email. For a recurring birthday, check that yearly recurrence is selected. If you are uncertain about the date, confirm it before enabling a yearly reminder.
Set up a reminder in Boelong
Start on the homepage with a relationship, an important date and optional interests. After signing in, add their name or nickname and confirm the occasion as a birthday. Open their profile, choose Plan a reminder, select how early to be reminded and your local send time, check Email me this reminder, and save. Saving a person or date alone does not switch emails on.
Check timezone and delivery expectations
Check your account timezone, especially after travel or a move. Email can be delayed or filtered, so review your spam folder and reminder history if a message is missing. For a date you cannot afford to miss, keep an additional calendar reminder. A reminder helps you prepare; it does not order or send a gift.
Leave a useful note for next year
After giving a gift, record what it was and anything you learned: a preferred color, a size they mentioned, or an interest that has changed. Keep notes brief and only store information you have permission to keep. Review the details next year rather than repeating a gift automatically.
